arc de triomphe

While I am in Paris this time, I want to go up in the Arc de Triomphe. I have read to take the underground passage but none of the material I have read tells how to easily access this passage. Which side of the arc is it on and how will I know when I have found it? :)

If you're walking up the Champs toward the Arc on the right hand (north side), right before you get to the traffic circle there's steps going down. Take them. If you're going south on Grand Armee (which will become the Champs across the circle), stay on the left hand side (north again) and there's another set of staris. Take them, but they're heading the wrong way, don't sweat it.

You definately want to take the passage. The instructions above are good and it is real easy to find. It will drop you out right at the entrance by the Arc. Super easy.

Thanks, Ed and Charles. That is exactly what I was looking for.

You will not miss the underground passage. Stay on the right hand side of the street going towards the ARC de Triomph walking as if coming from the Lourve. You will reach the top of the street and before you would cross the street, there is a sign and staircase going underneath the ground to the Arc de Triomph. You cannot cross the street, no one does, it is too busy with cars and too dangerous. You should go when they have the changing of the guard. That was interesting. It does not last long, but very nice. I think it is around 6:30PM at nite, but sure if you look it up you will find the times. The passage way is across the street from the Arc de Triomph and you will use it to get back across the street. Have a great time.
