Back when the English Channel tunnel was nearing completion, a press release was widely circulated concerning a chance to walk/run for charity between England and France, under the waves. A number of writers (yes, me too) accepted and printed a mention of the novel promotion stunt without noticing it was scheduled for April 1. Much embarrassment, and no international jogging, ensued.
