Rhine River cruise in September. I will have access to WiFi but no data plan. Are there any apps that are somewhat secure/private that will allow me to share trip updates and photos with close relatives and friends at home? I have Facebook but would prefer to not send all of this information to everyone.

We love VOXER the most - you can also speak or text and send photos to groups or individuals. They must have the app too.
WhatsApp and DuckDuckGo are also good.

You can create a “group” in Facebook with only the family members and friends with whom you want to share your photos, and share your photos only to the group.

I use Google Photos (a free service with a Gmail account) and send out sharable links to the albums I've created. You can also share links individually.

I did some searching on this before my trip and found lots of options, but saved these links because I liked the options (I ultimately used WordPress but that is public). I'm looking over them now for next year's trip (I'm leaning towards Day One) but can't give much reference. However, I figured I would post the links if you or anyone wants to look through these. Note that some of these are for Apple only and although all are free, most have Premium options for a fee.
