I bought the Ipod plug adaptor set but they didn't label what they are and some are very similar. I looked at Apple's website but it just tells you which countries the adaptors will work in. There are two adaptors with the two round prongs like most of Europe uses but one adaptor's prongs are a LITTLE fatter than the other adaptor. I don't want to carry both if I don't need to. Does anyone know which one I will need for France, Italy and Switzerland?
Thanks
Bring both. Southern Europe uses the skinnier pins and Northern Europe the fatter pins. I don't know where exactly the demarcation line is.
I never actually realized that there was a difference in the thickness of the pins until I took my Swedish hairdryer on a trip to Italy where the plug pins were too fat to fit in the socket. The skinnier prongs will generally work in the north, but not vice-versa.
Most adapter kits just include the one with the skinnier prongs for Europe and generally that works in both North and South.
No - that's fine. The advantage of adapter set is that the plugs replace the removable part of the charger plug bit. That way you don't have extra bulk or worry about a loose connection between adapter and plug (I find this a common issue).
I got a set for my IPod and one for my laptop, and find them very useful. Not cheap, but since the adapters clip right in, I don't have to worry about losing them.

I was planning to plug my American charger into an adapter like I'd plug anything else electric into. Is that a bad idea for the iPod for some reason?
Are you renting a car?? I usually take the 12v adapter that hooks to a USB cable into the lighter plugin and recharge while driving. If your rentals don't have an 'Aux in" plug you can also gat a little FM trasmitter that plays your pod over the car radio and recharges it at the same time.
