We are in the planning stage of a two week trip and have found the perfect apartment through HomeAway. It is in the 4th Arrondissement Pompidou Le Marais. Are the accomidations through HomeAway as shown in their photos accurate? And is this a good location to become a resident, not a tourist?

I don't know about HomeAway. We stayed in the Marais for two weeks last year and loved the area, though we were closer to the Bastille. Be sure you can walk to the things you need, like groceries, etc. Do a map aearch for the area and make sure your needs can be met. Also, look for markets near by and times, days, etc. before you go.
We have rented apartments and homes in France for years. You have to adjust to what you have. All have been great, but it depends on your standards.

Is HomeAway like VRBO, where you rent from individual owners? If so, the photos are only as "accurate" as the owners want to make them. I rented an apartment in Paris through VRBO and the photos were exactly like what we found when we arrived, except for a couple of slight decor changes. We stayed in the 5th (Latin Quarter) and loved it. I think the 4th would be a great area to stay in too.
