Can anyone recommend an app for conversational French and German? I have duolingo, it seems to be more grammar oriented. I'm looking for something that'll teach me commonly used phrases that will be helpful while traveling.
You might have a look at the Pimsleur language courses, as they provide more of a conversation-oriented teaching style. That worked well for me in learning some Italian.
I second the recommendation of Pimsleur, I used it to learn some Hungarian. I have also been using Duolingo--I like that I'm learning how the words are spelled, because with a CD I only got the correct pronunciation, leaving me to wonder what the word actually looked like.
I like Pimsleur in the car used in conjunction with something like DuoLingo.
Pimsleur is the best I've found for learning common phrases. I personally learn better if I understand what's "going on" with the language (root words, uses, cases, tenses, etc.). Why do they say it that way? Instead of just useful phrases.
I feel like I'm doing well when I can listen to Pimsleur and "see" the intersection with what my computer course is teaching me.
Thanks for your suggestions, found a Pimsleur for French at my local library!
