Anyone prefer the PacSafe Metro 200 over the Money Belt?

We purchased the PacSafe Metro 200 for an upcoming trip. We're just wondering if it can be used (or is used by some) instead of the Money Belt.

I wouldn't trust anything in place of a money belt.

I'm considering getting one for camera, cellphone, maps, misc stuff, etc, etc.

Passport, Credit cards, most of my cash still go in the moneybelt. In my case, a "hidden pocket" which has loops for my belt and is worn inside the pant leg.

Any bag can be lost of stolen. Some type of moneybelt worn under the clothes is much harder to steal.

I will probably use it during my next trip since it is slash proof, tamper proof and snatch proof. So much more easier to use. I used it on my most recent trip to Israel instead of the neck pouch. I have used fanny packs for years and therefore very comfortable with them.

Not instead of a money belt, but in addition. I'd never put my passport, credit and ATM cards, and cash into a bag that could be separated from me. While the bag may be secure, there's nothing to stop someone from grabbing it off your shoulder via scooter, or stop you from setting it down and having it swiped.

I never carry a money belt. I can't stand having that around my waist. I always use a pacsafe bag though. I do have the metro 200 and it's great. It fits my asus eee as well, plus alot of other stuff.

I have the Metro 200 AND the Metro 100 and have used both for traveling. They are great day bags, but do NOT replace a money belt. However, your daily cash stash, camera, etc. will be more secure.

sorry, I did not read Ernest's post correctly. I have the PacSafe Stash Safe which is a fanny pack.

I use a cross body day bag, but it is in addition to my MONEY BELT. Would never keep my passport and credit/debit cards anywhere else.

These are interesting comments and show the variety of preferences of travelers. Try a neck pouch.

Nancy says she wouldn't trust anything but a money belt, but that is because she has never used a neck pouch.

It is far easier to get into and return down your shirt than a money belt. I shifted to the pouch 15 years ago from the belt and never looked back.

I see a lot of posts regarding the Pacsafe because it is slash proof. Have there been a lot of instances where people have had a backpack or messenger bag actually slashed and taken. I plan on using a RS backpack for regular luggage, a messenger bag as a day bag for maps books, camera etc. and a money belt. Just wondered if it is bad enough to need slash proof products. I don't believe I have read of anyone actually having a bag taken off them in the countries I plan to visit, France, Germany, Austria, Switz.

Tony,
I have never heard of anyone having their bag slashed but I would rather be safe. But the Pacsafe line is more than just slashproof. It also has locking zippers (they actually are clipping zippers but it deters thieves). It also has a steel reinforced strap to keep someone from grabbing or cutting it from your body. I always wear mine cross-body and keep my hand on it. I do carry my passport in it but I keep it in an interior pocket that is zipped. I think it would be really hard for someone to get at it. I have sensory issues that make it impossible to wear a money belt so this is what I do instead.

I wonder if we should remind people that "moneybelts" come in all shapes and types and don't have to use the one RS uses.

Waist type--worn around the waist with main part on either front or back

Neck Type--worn around the neck or messanger bag style under your clothes

Hidden Pocket--belt goes through loops on one end and the rest of it is kept under your pants (my favorite since I always wear a belt.)

Leg Stash--worn around the lower leg

Bra Stash--attaches to your bra. For woman, mostly :)

If there are any others I missed, feel free to add to the list.

I've tried all of the above--except the bra stash--and feel the Hidden Pocket is the most comfortable for me. Waist belt would be second. I didn't like the feel of the neck wallet's string around my neck, and found after awhile, the leg stash would slide down my leg as the muscle contracted. Making it tighter just cut off circulation.

Just a quick comment about money belts....my husband dutifully wore his money belt while in Las Vegas,(he has worn a money belt on all of our European trips also) and he stood up and felt the thing fall through his pants to the floor, with all our gambling money inside, of course. Point is, I don't trust money belts, i've heard of them coming loose, i've heard of the strap breaking, I just won't wear one. I use a PacSafe purse and have been all over Europe with it at leat 10 times. In public the purse is across my chest, I never take it off, never lay it down, not even in a restaurant. I feel very secure with it.

Gabriele....get your husband to purchase a moneybelt that loops through his belt....that way it won't come off. Besides...he'd look funny with a purse! ;)

I second Norm's suggestion. The Eagle Creek Hidden Pocket is my favorite money belt. It's so comfortable I find myself tapping the outside of my leg just to make sure its still there. IT always is. (I believe I would feel it if it came loose.)

I purchased RS Money Belt and have worn it on several trips abroad. I then found the PacSafe Metro 200 pac and have switched to it as I feel it is far safer than the RS money belt. I am suprised that RS hasn't incorporated it's designs into his product. Dorsey
