Anyone know where I can buy the twin comforters used in central/easten european?

We really like the thin-ish narrow twin comforters that we've had in many hotels in Central and Eastern Europe. We have done google research but we can not find them anywhere. Seems like twin comforters in the US are all too wide. We'd like to be able to use 2 on a king bed. Does anyone know where could find them. Thank you!

Perhaps use the word duvet instead of comforter in your search?

Check out LL Bean and definitely feathers (down) not polyester or any other filling.

If you don't buy feathers and down, the poor starving geese will be out of work. Where are they going to get another job at their age?

Not buying feathers is just plain cruel.

Besides which, they feel so comfy and warm.

I suggested buying polyester, since it is much lighter than the feathers, and will keep its "loft" much longer than feathers will. Plus, it's a lot cheaper.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I'm hoping to find twin comforters that are narrower, 36-40" wide. Looks like the ones at Ikea and LLBean are about 68" wide. Any ther places I should look?

If you have an IKEA close to you, the twin size comforters as well as duvets and pillow cases are available in the children's bed section and later in the bigger bedding section. They also have a choice for warmth, in case you want two different thickness comforters. The package tells you the exact dimensions (might be in centimeters).

But comforters and duvets are two different things, no? I actually love comforters that are cotton on the outside with wool inside. I got a large one on Overstocks.com some years ago (made in Australia, as I recall) and cut it down myself to make smaller ones. Kind of a pain, but it was so well-priced I couldn't pass it up. I also get hits when I Google "twin wool comforter."

On my trips to Germany and Austria, I have brought home several comforters in different weights and all in the twin size. My past trip I brought home a new feather European pillow and a new duvet and pillow sheet (cover) set. Their quality is so much better than here in the States and I think their prices are great for the quality. I buy the comforter covers that have a zippered closure instead of buttons. Their 100% sateen feel is wonderful. When I am in Munich, I often go to the store Bettenrid. Here is their website: https://www.bettenrid.de/ Look under the heading "schlafen". I also check out the Sale items.

Try the Marks and Spencer USA website. They ship free if you spend at least 50 pounds. It's marksandspencerlondon.com, I think. Duvets and pillows are in the same section--see if any of those work. Note: they ship by DHL so you need to have it delivered where someone will be to receive. Where I live, DHL will not just leave a package so I have any orders shipped to my office. Good luck & happy shopping!

I do not think you want ones that are only 36-40" wide. That width would barely cover me for sleeping---and I am tiny. Raise your knees up and your sides will be exposed.

The European duvets are not laid flat, side by side, on the bed when it is made up---at least I have never seen them like that. Rather, they are folded crosswise, usually 3x, and sometimes rotated 90 degrees so the two individual duvets fit side by side on a large bed (which in Germany is usually two beds pushed together---"mind the gap." In use, the two duvets overlap ( good for cuddling).

When I was a student in Germany and had a twin bed, the duvet was considerably wider than the bed itself---at least 120 cm (roughly 4 feet).

Having had feather duvets and non-feather, my preference is the non-feather. You can toss them in the washer as often as you like. You can't do this with feather blankets. They are easier to handle, when putting their covers on them.
Plus, it is cruel to the geese to pull their feathers out of them. Ouch!

I've been buying high down, low feather count duvets in Germany or Austria for several years. Up until 2 years ago, I only bought 200x200cm duvets and covers. Two years ago I bought our first twin sized duvets, 135x200cm. I love this size. Even if I go to Germany or Austria and don't buy a duvet, I almost always buy new covers. The most popular sizes are 135x200 and 200x200. It's hard to find 155x200 anymore.

Also in addition to polyester and feather/down filling, there is also bamboo, camel hair, sheep's wool, etc. In addition to the Munich shop mentioned above, I have found some good buys at Galleries Kaufhaus and other large department store.

We love our different weight duvets! I can get one stuffed into my collapsible duffel bag for the trip home.

Enjoy the quest.
