These are new to me (I don't use CC much). So if I use a Virtual Account number (from Citi for example) can I reserve Hotels, trains, museum passes, tours, etc? Has anyone had any problems with this. I would think the Hotel doesn't care as long as they get paid but picking up tickets from the will call window in Verona might be different. Thanks.

I've used these virtual numbers to order things off the Internet, but I wouldn't use one to get something that wasn't being delivered to my house. Sometimes getting the ticket is keyed to the credit card you hand over (or stick in the machine) and if you used a virtual number, you won't have a card that has that number on it.

Virtual numbers work for one time purchase. However, with many reservations including trains, it is often necessary to present the card that was used for the purchase since the records are keyed to that card. Probably ok with hotels. With cc reservations for hotels I use an old cc just for that purpose but pay with a different cc. That is not a problem.
