Anyone else enjoy Captain Steeeve?

I watch his reels all the time. I especially like his explanations after an airplane event - very clear play by play of what was happening with the plane when something went wrong.

Anyway, here’s one from today with 10 things you should never do before a flight…pilot’s perspective.

New to me too - thanks for the link and the new content to follow. I enjoyed his description of the emotional support water bottle. :)

Yes! I just had a run of them. He made me rethink a decision. I had recently slipped away from wearing natural fibers on the plane, was going to wear pants of some manmade fibers for the flight. Nope. My jeans are back on the plane...I'll just roll up my pant legs a bit before going into the plane bathroom. Done it before, I can do it again. Only my last trip to Spain did I deviate from natural fibers thinking no one else thought about the ramifications, but apparently the professionals do.

Wray…he’s said to wear natural fibers a number of times in various clips. He was very stern after the Delta crash at Toronto about not dressing for your destination if a warm climate but always dressing to evacuate the plane.

Years ago a good friend ran a travel agency and even then (70’s/80’s) she insisted on tie shoes so you could run if needed.

He has an interesting back story…he is Boston-based and was to be flying one of the planes that went into the Twin Towers. Someone else more senior bumped him at the last minute.

And yes, CL, I laughed at the emotional support water bottle!

Thanks so much for this - I had never heard of him before.

Thanks Pam, I’d never heard of him before and everything was so funny and true, I’m sure. I met a guy who admitted to leaving 2 iPads in the seat back pockets over the years never to be seen again. And as someone who always takes an aisle seat I’m very aware of the unaware backpack wearer. Never been hit by an emotional support water bottle however!

My husband landed (‘91 first gulf war) in a military plane that had an engine on fire and had an emergency exit with orders to RUN! So yes good shoes that stay attached may help save your life.

Ha, good video, Pam, with some good tips! It made me remember one time when I flew with a bad head cold. My ears got clogged up during the descent and it took almost a week for things to get better.

I still remember reading the book "Airport" by Arthur Hailey many years ago, and how one character chastised the airports for making light of emergency procedures. He said they would be better served if the first sentence of each announcement began, "PAY ATTENTION!! YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON THESE PROCEDURES!" But of course, they don't because they know people will freak out.

I'm glad Captain Steeeve talks about preparing for disaster! And I always wear natural fibers and good sturdy lace-up shoes (of course that's usually because they are my heaviest shoes and I don't want to pack them, lol!).

Pam, thanks for sharing this information and the link. I just finished watching the video and realized that on the trip I’m on now I only brought pants that were lightweight and dry quickly. I did pack one pair of jeans and I’ll now wear them on the way home. I’m not sure it would matter though because the flight will be entirely over water, from Sydney to San Francisco. I’m now following Captain Steeeve on Facebook for more tips. I laughed at the emotional support water bottle.

Thanks Pam. Very entertaining and educational. One thing I do that he didn't mention is to count the seat backs to the nearest emergency exit. If the "emergency lighting" doesn't come on or if its smokey, you may not be able to see where the exit is. But you can feel the seatbacks.

I love this! Thank you! And yes, the emotional support water bottles... Lol

I've tried to argue that I should keep my emotional support corkscrew, but that doesn't fly. So to speak.

Yes, I’ve seen his videos…he’s very personable!
I rarely put anything in those seatback pockets….ewww.
I bring a thin plastic grocery bag to line them with in case I do need to use them.

I know two people who left IPads in them and remembered much later.
One got hers back, the other never did.

@Lynda - Glad your husband ran!

@Mardee - I had plugged ears for about a month a few trips ago. I used Afrin last time with a good result. (The day before, the morning of and before descent on the international leg)

@Trotter - “* One thing I do that he didn't mention is to count the seat backs to the nearest emergency exit.*”. The same friend who made me wear tie on shoes also insisted on this and made us count and remember the number of seat backs. That was the first thing I thought of when the plane landed upside down in Toronto! She also insisted on feet flat on the floor and hands under your thighs like the flight attendants at least used to sit.

@Andrea - difficult when you are headed to a warm location! I usually wear jeans anyway but this gave me a good reason! Have a wonderful time!

@Jane! Oh I love that! I think many forum members may have an emotional support corkscrew, (where is that laughing til you cry em when you need it?)

I’m glad so many are enjoying him! Just the kind of pilot you want! Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone on the forum flew with him?!

“* One thing I do that he didn't mention is to count the seat backs to the nearest emergency exit.*”.

LOL. Pam, this is me as well! I think being upside down might have confused me though. And know the exits in theaters, etc.

I just left my iPad in the seat back last Thursday on our flight from JFK to Tokyo. Luckily we booked our trip through InsideJapan. I emailed them as soon as I realized I left it. I had my iPad delivered to my hotel the next day for a fee of less than $10.00.

@Wray....yes, I'm sure that was disorienting in the extreme, not to mention trying to get yourself righted in an emergency!

@BARBARA!!! Oh my word....well, lesson learned my friend hopefully for all of us. So glad your tour company was helpful.
