I know it's not a general Europe question, but I want to go in a year and would like to start researching options now. Has anyone been that could give me tips? Thank you in advance.
You'll get a better start there.
Rick has a DVD for travel to Egypt for sale on this website. In general, it's challenging to travel independently in this country; it's a developing country and the infrastructure and services aren't at the level you would find in most of Europe. For most it would be best use escorted tours to get around and view the sites. If you're mostly interesting in seeing the pyramids, consider going to the ones outside Mexico City. They're every bit as spectacular, yet easier/cheaper to get to.
I traveled to Egypt in 2007, taking my mother who had always wanted to go. We did a package tour with Insight Vacations and were very impressed with the tour and the price of the tour. I would recommend them.
Thank you all!
I loved Egypt and would return in a heartbeat....We did a 17 day Egypt/Jordan adventure with Gap and could not believe how much we managed to see.We have travelled extensively and usually independently but we could never have covered as much by ourselves in that time nor at the price with so much included. We went in September and it was comfortable in Cairo but 46 degrees in Valley of the Queens so check when you want to travel as the heat in Aswan and area was somewhat overbearing at times. Please contact me if I can be of any further help.
