Any updates on travel with the Delta Variant?

We leave on Sept 1 for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. We are fully vaccinated and ready to go.

Has anyone heard if the new Covid Delta variant is limiting travel/hotels/restaurants/transportation?

I'm not sure where to get the latest info. I confirmed all of our reservation a couple weeks ago and everyone said all is fine, but I'm not feeling as confident now as it seems to be spreading. We can still cancel all our reservations with no fees but come early August that will change.

Any advice?

Thanks, Monte

Look at official government sources and keep track of ongoing changes, nothing is static. In the case of Germany, regions have their own autonomy related to public health measures so it gets more complicated. In general, people have advised to keep itineraries as straightfoward as possible if you are aiming to minimize risk (a multi-country trip will require more effort keeping abreast of everything).

Just echoing what Agnes has said, she's exactly right.

Hi Monte, for Switzerland, there’s several people that have scheduled trips coming up so we’ve been posting any entry restrictions on the Switzerland forum. I’m scheduled to leave Sept. 2nd and I’m starting to feel a little less confident. But, I’m trying not to worry about things that are out of my control. I think come Mid-August I’ll have a better sense for how things might be come Sept. Right now, I think it’s still a little too early to predict what Sept will look like.

If you lose the ability to get a refund come early Aug., you’ll have to make a decision at that time. You’ll just have to keep an eye on things. The one worry for Switzerland is will they change the entry requirements for the US with the increase in variant here. Perhaps there will be some info. on that prior to your decision time.

Unfortunately, we just have to wait and see. Not much help I know.

Keeping my fingers crossed for myself and everyone else.

Check the websites for the US Embassy in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Also, the city and state tourism websites for Germany have been pretty good. For Baden Wurttemberg, the Baden Wurttemberg tourismus website has maps of current covid cases and what regulations would apply to things based on cases. Right now BW is looking good, but that could change for the worse of course.

Thanks for the website, Mona! I'm saving it for use when I transit through Frankfurt in a few months. Much appreciated!
