Any Photogs out there?

I saw this really fabulous tri-pod recently. It was travel size, but not the more common 10 inch telescopic one.
I saw a guy with it but he didn't speak any of my languages so asking for a closer look probably would not have been a good plan.
I'll decsribe it for you...It was about 5 or 6 inches long at the very most and was telescopic, extending to full height about 5 feet tall believe it or not. It's legs were about 2 inches thick with rubber feet. It appeared ultra lightweight and hung off a biner on his backpack. I think it had red lettering, maybe in Chinese??
Does anyone know this tri-pod or can suggest one similar? I can only find the standard travel compact tri-pods that are 10 inches folded up. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks for your help.

I have a travel tripod that is tiny. It's not telescopic but can be set on anything in any variety of angles.

A feature I really like is a velcro strap that allows it to be attached to a pole or tree. The whole thing is about six inches long and weighs almost nothing.

I use it for timed photos so I can be part of the group. I also got some good pictures of fireworks by strapping it on my parked bike for stability.

Hi Brad
Thanks for your reply. Your tripod sounds neat! Can I ask where I might find one and the brand name?

I just used the Joby Gorillapod in Italy. It was amazing. I wrapped it around a fence to get a shot of my daughter and me at the Colosseum, used it in Ostia Antica.

no more stopping and asking people to take our pictures.

This tripod is extremely lightweight. It fit in my day bag. The attachment is left on the camera, and it take up no room...when you want to take a picture, you simply slide the tripod onto the camera. No screwing and unscrewing, taking precious time.

You can arrange the legs in any manner - this is the end all tripod...You gotta get one!

You purchase them based on the size of your camera. if you are using one of those really tiny digital camera you buy the smallest. I bought the medium size one...my digital is the Sony H5, so kind of a mid size body.

Buy the Joby!!

I'm with Ellen ~ buy the Gorilla Pod. I took one with me this summer to Italy, Germany & Austria and it was great. Travelling alone it was still easy to get the shots I wanted without a second set of hands. Just find something to wind the legs around or use it as a traditional tripod and you're set! Happy Travels!

I'm also a fan of the Gorilla Pod. Makes a big difference with night shots.

Not to sound like a broken record here but I too have the Joby Gorillapod and used it this past October for my four week whirlwind tour of Europe. I got some great night shows of Eiffel Tower and Trevi Fountain plus lots of shots of my wife and I with beautiful scenery in Tuscany and the Alps all without bugging people to take our picture! I bought the one made for a digital SLR cameras. It actually worked great but a few times it couldn't hold the camera's weight like I wanted especially for any portrait shots (camera the long way). For regular landscape style shots from a solid surface it worked great! Small, light and offers more usability than a regular mini-tripod.

Thanks all for your replies! I think I'll give this Gorilla pod a try! It sounds like many of us love it!
I'm still curious about the one I saw earlier, though. If anyone knows of it or has any other suggestions, please post or PM me.
