Another Where to Stay in Paris question

It is our first time to Paris. My husband and I fly into BVA and will be staying for two nights in early July. Going to Notre Dame, Versailles, Louvre, and would love to hit some boutiques and visit the Eiffel tower at night. Looking for 4 star, picturesque - cafes, shops, not big club area. Thank you. I am overwhelmed by the choices.

I am overwhelmed by the thoght you think you can do all that with only 1.5 days,, since two nights only equal one and half days . Notre Dame and Louvre is a day, this assumes you just run through the museum and check off the big three. Shopping in itself takes as long as you make it, but you won't have enough time. Versailles is a day, do Eiffel Tower that night perhaps. I love love love Versailles, have been 7 or 8 times now,, but I totally recomend you skip it for this visit, otherwise you simply have no time for Paris at all.

Try the Meurice, its close to Louvre, you can walk to Notre Dame,, and Rue Du Rivoli is lined with shops( mostly touristy ,but there are a few nice boutiques mixed in here and there,, especially if you walk a block or two off street) If that too much( $$), try Hotel Brighton its about a block up same street, but get the Tuilleries View rooms, then you can see the ET from the mini balconys,, as well as Louvre and Tuilleries.

We actually fly in and out of Paris from Rome -- hoping for 2.5 good days

Jennifer ,, for your flight home, doubt very much if you can count that day at all. "You have to be at CDG three hours in advance, and it will take about an hour to get to airport( actually 35-40 minutes by RER depending on where you start in Paris) taxi will take longer, plus traffic can affect travel time drastically . So we assume that leaves you the day you arrive in Paris, say by 11 am, go to hotel drop bags,, then proceed to tour about. Then next day is your full day. Then next day is your departure. Thats two nights, one full day one half to 3/4th day( depending when you arrive in Paris) Perhaps you have an evening flight out of Paris,, I have never heard of that though, but I suppose Americans have a lot more choices,, our flights always leave before noon to go to the west coast.

Jennifer, you should make a choice! Any hotel in arrondisments 1-6 will be good locations. Check the Rick Steves' Paris guidebook, and Graffiti Wall comments on this site for suggestions (though I would not do rue Cler just because it is not very centrally located and your stay is short) Also check TripAdvisor hotel reviews. Stay close to center of the city, where you can walk, or take short bus or cab ride to the sights. Skip Versailles, as others have said, to do it right you need a full day. Paris will have more than enough to entertain you. and I agree - definitely check out the Eiffel Tower night light show.

Remember that you are flying into Beauvais which somehow has got some cheap airlines to use it - it's halfway to the English Channel - (Ryanair?) which will take a smidgen of time to get to your destination in Paris.

I agree with Pat and BG, just wanted to add that my favorite place to stay is Ile Saint Louis, the little island east of Notre Dame (charming, surrounded by the river and amazing views, lots of great shops), at Hotel de Lutece.

Pat is right, the trip to Versailles is too time consuming for such a short time in Paris. Can't help you with hotel recommendations though, I always stay cheap in Paris and thus in fairly inconvenient locations.

My husband and I stayed at the Le Littre (6th arron.) in 2009 and 2010 (for a total of three weeks). The last time we stayed there we got a room with a balcony and a total view of the Eiffel Tower. As it stays light until 11:00 PM in the summer, we were able to enjoy all the lights for the whole 6 days we were there. The hotelk is convenient to the Metro. We really enjoyed the air conditioned rooms in May and June.
