Another quick question re: adapters (packing as I type)

I have misplaced my adapters since my last trip to Europe and a friend just dropped off her set of adapters. Two questions: Will one adapter work for the whole continent (France, Italy, Sweden) and second, her pack included a converter, which I don't remember needing... do I need to pack that? The things we will need to plug in are our IPOD and digital camcorder.

Thanks so much!

As it has been stated here about 100 times...you need to check your power supply. If it says "120-240" then it does not need a converter. Just the adapter. The 240 is the key number for Europe.

Most of western Europe uses the same round two prong adapter. Except for the UK.

Yes, you need to pack everything she gave you. You dont know if you need an converter and which adapters you need until you get to any country. Adapters vary in the countries you plan to visit. I would not take the risk; take everything with you and be safe.

If you want to make sure, visit your Target store and look at the schedule of adapters for all countries listed on a package.

Although it has been stated 100 times, I'm sure that Kendra has not noticed the amount of times the question has been asked (although I doubt you meant it in a rude way, but our words tend to sound a bit different when typed rather than spoken).

Af for the adapters, if you are needing it for a hairdryer and curling iron, an adapter will be fine as long as your hairdryer switches to 240 (it will be right underneath the on/off switch. most do). I took a quarter and switched mine to 240 and works just fine with my German outlets. As for my curling iron, an adapter works just fine also, no need to switch anything over. I am not too sure about cell phones as mine are German, so I would suggest taking the converter for those types of things.

Have fun on your trip!

Go on, pack everything. Take those swim fins in case you want to go swimming in Italy. Unless, of course, you believe in packing light! Then only take what you absolutely have to have. The standard two pin europlug adapter will work in all those countries. It has two 4mm round pins on 19mm centers. Thats about 5/32" pin diameter and ¾" centers. If you don't have calipers, try finding some standard sized drills to compare.

Be careful! The adapter often labeled "No. Europe" has 4.8mm (3/16") pins and will work in Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Germany, but not in Italy.

For the authority on plugs in Europe, see here.
