Another one asking for itinerary reviews :)

Hello all. My husband and I are planning a 4week trip to Europe in October. We've travelled through most of western and Central Europe a fair bit in the past, but it's been over 10 years since our last visit. We're in our mid 60s, so we'd like to see quite a bit, but not exhaust ourselves in the process. I think our roughed out itinerary looks doable, what to the experts think? Our flights were booked today, so those dates are fixed (our TA found us a GREAT price)

Oct 2-fly to London

Oct 3-7 London

Oct 8-12 Paris (Via Eurostar)

Oc13-15 Loire Valley. We'll take the train to Amboise and pick up a rental car for our time there.

Oct 16-19 Munich (travel by train)

Oct 20 Oberammergau (just an overnight stay to visit with friends)

Oct21- 24 Venice (travel by train)

Oct 25- 28 Florence

Oct 29 fly home

I'm sure I'll be posting a lot of questions in the individual country forums. A lot!

I'm no expert, but your itinerary looks good to me.
I'm the same approximate age, so we're also grabbing all the gusto we can. You never know what cards you're going to be dealt in the future.
Just do as we do--pack light (22 lbs. max.)

Loire to Munich might be a problem. I'd fly Orly to Munich.

Thanks for the reassurance David and MrsEB. This was kind of a spur of the moment decision, and we wanted a good 6 months to plan it out. Oct seemed the perfect time for us since the crowds should be less (and the weather ok) in the early northern part of the trip, and still warmish in Italy at the end.

Richard - I know it's going to be a long day on the train to Munich, but we both love train travel. I'd much rather take the extra time and not endure another airport/crowded, cramped flight/airport hassle). Plus, it will be kind of an enforced rest day for my 60 something year old knees. 😄

I'm with you CJean. I'll take 8 hours on a train any day over a one hour ( that's can easily morph into 5-6 hours travel time) inter European flight. To me, a day on a train watching the European countryside fly by is fun and relaxing. I never enjoy plane travel.

I like it too. Hopefully your train connections between Amboise and Munich don't require a change of stations in Paris. The route via Strasbourg will be easier on those knees.

CJean,
I also have a long day or train travel on my trip. I'm also looking forward to it and my wife didn't want another flight either.
