Another Insurance Question - Specifically Medical Evac

After extensive research I have narrowed down to 2 policies for international medical insurance. The major difference between the policies is the amount of medical evacuation coverage--250K or 500K. This would be an annual policy and currently we have booked or planned trips to Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany, The Netherlands and The United Kingdom.

A topic search on the forum did not yield any recent (less than 2 years) posts where someone has used medical evacuation services. If someone has better search skills and can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. OR does anyone have any suggested resources or (although unfortunate) experience to help me determine if a $250K policy would provide adequate coverage from western Europe to the USA? I understand we only may get to the States, not all the way home to the northern gulf coast.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Just understand that some coverage takes you only to the nearest appropriate medical facility for whatever happened to you and not necessarily to home or even to the US. We have chosen Medjet for many years because they offer “If you are hospitalized 150 miles or more from home, Medjet will arrange air medical transport all the way back to your hospital of choice in your home country — regardless of medical necessity.” Luckily we haven’t had reason to test it.

There are quite a few video testimonials on the Medjet website as well as reports about recent medical evacuations. They will list start/end point and then the cost if there had not been Medjet. This should give you an idea of typical costs.

I'm going to add to what Laurie Ann wrote.

My travel insurance policy has a medical evacuation clause but it only gets me to the nearest hospital.

I also took out a Medjet Assist policy because it would get me to the hospital of my choosing.

A big difference.

If you are a member of AARP, you can get a Medjet Assist policy at a discount.
