Annual travel insurance policy for senior

I tried looking at past posts regarding this subject; however, the only posts I could find are at least 3 years old. I'm wondering if anyone has had a favorable experience purchasing, and maybe submitting a claim, using an annual travel insurance policy. I purchased such a policy from Allianz almost a year ago and it is now time to either renew with them or try a different company. I did not file any claims with them during the year. It appears....from what I have researched online....that there are only a few companies who offer annual policies that include trip cancellation coverage. Trawick International is one company but when I read their reviews I am wary of them. Can anyone give me any input/advice regarding an annual policy? I will be traveling internationally at least 5 times in 2025 to Europe, South America and Asia if that is relevant info.

Thank you!
Lori

For over a decade, I have always traveled abroad using American Air frequent flyer miles, and I always purchased the Allianz policy offered at the time by AA when paying for my flight. It offers basic coverage, but it does have a trip interruption clause. One time last year my flight which was supposed to be non-stop to Rome, was diverted to PHL, & we had to stay over at a hotel until the flight left the next day. I submitted a claim to Allianz, and I received a check to reimburse me for the cost of the hotel for $300 by the end of a week.

My wife and I travel with an Allianz All Trips Premier plan plus a MedJet Horizon plan. The Allianz plan is good for 90 days outside the USA. All we have to do is return to the USA by the 90th day and the clock restarts whenever we depart internationally again. We basically look for Allianz to get us to local hospital and for MedJet to get a hospital near our home. FYI we are out of the country at least 3 to 4 times a year for 30 to 60 days at a time.

I'm the same as Ed. Same insurance, same companies. I've had my policy for years.

Trip cancellation is something not usually included in travel insurance. That would be extra. Cancel for any reason, nope. Pipe dream. Most people would cancel through the way they booked.
What is wrong with your Allianz? They are a big company. We use them for annual travel insurance as have others ss noted here.

Thank you all for your replies. I will renew with Allianz. I was just wondering how they were with paying claims versus other companies. I have been fortunate to not have a claim for any of my travels....I hope to keep it that way but I feel better knowing that Allianz pays their claims quickly.

I'm not familiar with the Allianz plan, but it's unlikely to include Medical evacuation insurance. Many Forum members rely on MedJet for medical evacuation back to the US, something you may wish to consider since you're traveling so often to some pretty far away places. I'm going to guess from your user name you might have medicare, in which case there's a medicare supplement that includes $50,000 lifetime foreign medical insurance coverage. I called my provider to double check, it's real. Good luck!

If you go with the Allianz do go to their website and look up the providers that accept direct payment from Allianz in each of hour stops. Maybe put a shortcut to the list on your phone. Beats waiting for reimbursement.

If direct payment is important. Allianz has quite a large number of providers they work with. Many are called hospitals and that may be the proper termination in many countries, but that does not mean they meet the common US perception of a hospital. In my city they are predominantly out patient clinics. They might set a broken bone, but anything that requires in patient care will most likely require a trip to a public hospital. Public hospitals in my country are good. They will keep you alive and fix what's broken and the doctors are excellent. But the experience is not at all what an American is going to appreciate. You will return home appreciating US Healthcare standards.
