An itin to critique - Prague/Austria/Italy

So I'm finally firming up my plans for Sept (Sept 13-Oct 5). Just wondering if I have too many/not enough days in these places...

Prague 4 nights (we will be arriving about 5pm on Sept 13, coming from London after flying from home the day before, so basically have 3 full days)
Vienna 4 nights

Innsbruck 3 nights
Bolzano 3 nights
Verona 2 nights
Venice 3 nights
London 3 nights
fly home on Oct 5

Between Verona and Venice we plan on stopping in Padua for part of the day. All cities are new except Venice, where we've been 4 times already (but I need to go back - it's my fav spot and haven't been since 2014) and London - my sister is in the UK, so hoping to get a visit in with her, and we always like ending in London before coming home. We've been in London every trip, so 7 times already - we plan on taking a day trip one day, and the other day will be hitting our fav shops and popping into a museum.

We've seen Salzburg before, which is why it isn't on the list.
We will not have a car for any leg, relying on trains.

I'm not really interested in adding any more cities, but do I have too much time in one spot and not enough in another? Do I need 3 nights in Bolzano or Innsbruck? Should I add a night to Prague or Vienna? I'm so tempted to add another night to Venice because I love it so much, but am trying to resist since I've already spent so much time there.

What do you plan to do while staying in Bolzano? If you want to go up in the Dolomites, 3 nights is probably the minimum I'd recommend. (I make no comment on the mountain weather you might hit in late September, because I just don't know.) If you don't plan any mountain time, you could perhaps get by with 2 nights, but there are other attractive towns in that valley even if you can complete your Bolzano sightseeing in one day, so you won't be bored.

Looking at Bolzano, the cable car looks interesting, the museum with Otzi def holds interest. If there was somewhere accessible by train, I'd think of visiting another town.

Maybe we could do 2 nights there (this is actually the one stop hubby was questioning) and just leave after supper for Verona on what would be the third night. I am interesting in seeing a few other spots near Venice, so I could tack that night onto Venice and do a day trip to Treviso...

There are lots of great possibilities in northern Italy. Padua's worth a full day, if not longer. Vicenza is smaller and could be enjoyed in something less than a full day.

Over near Bolzano you have Bressanone, a somewhat smaller town with a pretty historic district. However, the historic area is a bit of a walk from the RR station (more so than in Bolzano, it seemed to me). A much smaller town in that valley, which would make a nice contrast, is Chiusa/Klausen.

The Otzi museum is very well done. Having access to a lift right in Bolzano is cool. I was staying very near the train station and walked to it. Some folks would prefer to hop on a bus. It was a good distance, and I don't remember that the surroundings along the way were scenic.

Since you put it that way, I won't tell you that Venice is over rated, over crowded, over priced, and is the closest thing to a slum that I have ever seen in Europe.

Aside from that, the basic rule is that one cannot spend too much time in London, Vienna or Prague. Without a car, one night is more than enough for Innsbruck. I've taken 54 vacations in EU, and never been to Bolzano & its not even on the radar yet. I think you could reduce it to zero. Have you been to Pisa?

Yes, yes, and Munich and Berlin are third rate attractions. It's very odd that a relatively new poster has such strong negative opinions on some of the most popular travel destinations on the planet. ANYWAY,

OP, I think your itinerary looks quite good! Not rushing around. You probably don't NEED 3 nights in Innsbruck, the town itself isn't huge and doesn't have a lot of time-consuming attractions, but it's a lovely place and you now have time for a little day trip or some hiking in the Alps. If you'd like to give a night to somewhere else, you could take it from Innsbruck, however. I suspect similarly with Bolzano but since I haven't personally been there, I don't want to make that call.
