Amsterdam Weather Mid-October/Early November?

We are considering a fourth trip to Amsterdam which would be between mid-October and mid-November (2-3 weeks total). This looks like the only time we can get off work this year... This trip we will be traveling with a friend who has never been to the Netherlands so we want to show her a good time.

In the past we have visited between mid-September and mid-October. My primary concern regards the weather... when does the outdoor café seating tend to close-down and the trees lose their leaves? What kind of weather can we expect compared to earlier in the fall?

We are not big on visiting the typical tourist spots; I'd say that we average less than one museum or "sight" per day. We prefer to rent a flat, shop for our food in neighborhood stores and outdoor markets and hang with the locals while visiting friends in Amsterdam and nearby towns.

Any suggestions/experiences from travelers who have visited during late fall will be appreciated!

I just checked my photos of a trip to the Kröller-Müller Museum in Arnheim a few years ago. It must have been around Nov 1 - my grandma's birthday. There are still leaves on the trees in the sculpture park, about half are on the ground. On some days it was quite nice, but most pictures show us in rain jackets with wind swept hair ...

Have to admit, November is my least favourite time to travel through Europe but I've done it more than once (can't really choose my grandma's birthday) and we usually do have a very nice time ;-)

We were there in early October. We wore layers including light jackets but it wasn't bad, mostly cool and windy. It only rained a little which is a bonus in A'dam. It rains on average every other day year round.
