Amsterdam to Paris

Did Rick Steve’s have a book that was an itinerary and travel tips for traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. It seems I used it like 7-8 years ago and can’t find it. But could be wrong. Thanks

His guidebooks for Amsterdam and France have information about train connections between those cities, but all you're likely to really need is here and here. The high-speed Thalys gets you to Paris (Gare du Nord) in about 3 1/4 hours with a few brief stops. Tickets aren't expensive if you buy them well ahead of time (which commits you to that particular train). Service is frequent and the train is comfortable. From the center of one city to the center of the other, it's faster than flying. I can't imagine a better way to go.

If you're looking to make stops and see things along the way, that's another story. I don't think the RS guidebooks would be much help there, though, as he's pretty selective in what he describes. You might combine a good map with Lonely Planet guides to plan a road trip.

Rick used to have a book that combined Belgium and the Netherlands, but those topics have since been split up. For planning a multi-country trip with a single book, RS Best of Europe covers the destinations you mentioned.

For trains to Germany and Venice you can see the schedules and buy tickets, seeing the difference in price between advance tickets and the walk-up price at www.bahn.com. You can also view train schedules for other countries, but not buy tickets.

By the time you get to Venice, you may be thinking about switching over to a train. It's a long way from Venice to Paris on the ground, and the Alps are smack dab in the way with few roads or trains over them.
My personal limit is 3-4 hours on any train.

We've taken the Thalys twice, both times in the other direction - Paris to Brussels and Paris to Rotterdam. Both trips were pleasant and efficient.

Well, laughing, you could just take Rick's 21 Day Best of Europe tour since it covers much of your wishlist.

I do recommend you not use that tour itinerary for a DIY trip unless you can allow yourself more time. You can move that fast on a tour because the driver knows exactly where he/she is going and the guide knows exactly how to get you in and out of the sights as easily and quickly as possible.

No idea if RS published tips but you can get them here right now.

You can take the Thalys train directly from AMS or Amsterdam Centraal rail station to Paris' Gare du Nord and do so as cheaply as 35€ one way if you buy tickets as soon as tickets are available online (either 90 days or 120 days ahead).

Thalys is easy, comfortable, has large windows, & has seats each with outlets. And I am talking about the 2nd class coaches. Enjoy!!
