Amsterdam to London to Normandy in 10 days in May 2025

Hello! I am planning a trip with my 2 college grads this year. The beaches of Normandy is on my son's must-do list and Amsterdam is on my daughter's must-see list. I was thinking I could devote 3 nights max to Amsterdam (Anne Frank, history, wandering) and 2 nights for Normandy area with London 2 nights as a stopping point in between. I'm hoping to travel by train or plane with car transfers as needed. Looking for thoughts on if this itinerary seems doable and thoughts on areas to stay that make travel and touring easiest. I am thinking we would fly into Amsterdam from US then fly home from ??? We could change up the itinerary, as I am still researching! Any helpful advice would be incredible!

Slow down and enJOY. You will be traveling more than seeing the towns. 2 nights is only 1 full day. You've got THREE countries- way too much.

I'd focus just on France for this trip. Or do a river cruise Paris to Normandy. Do Amsterdam another time. Less is more when it comes to Europe.

Plus, if you don't have flights and hotels booked by now for May - you are way behind.

Or skip London - fly into Paris and out of Amsterdam.

Please look at Anne Frank website for tickets - most of us wake up at 4am to get them on our opening day.

Your numbers don't add up. Your title says 10 days. Your post only accounts for 7. And dont forget that if you end in Normandy, you need to return to Paris the night before your flight home, unless it leaves late in the day. I think you need to drop one location.

Others have pointed to impractical hopes. Here is another tool to help your plans work better. Multi-city one-ticket airline itineraries can save time and even, sometimes, airline money. Use a search engine that takes you into one European city and back cross the Atlantic from another, all one one ticket. For instance, fly into Paris and home from Amsterdam, or vice versa. The price will be nearly the same or sometimes lower than two one-way tickets and you can save up to a day (which you need for such widespread wishful thinking.) But to repeat, the ticket must be assembled by a multi-destination search engine ( widely available; even some airline sites can do it.) You cannot stitch it together with one-ways.

Agree with narrowing this trip to Amsterdam and Normandy. Fly into Amsterdam for three days then train to Paris and train to Normandy. Stay in Bayeau for three days then train back to Paris for a.few days and home.from.there. Be sure to book multi city plane tickets.

If I were planning 10 days with Amsterdam & Normandy (probably Bayeux) as my must-see places, I'd plan to fly into AMS and depart from CDG. Eurostar from Amsterdam to Paris for about $41 pp (3 hours 30 minutes), switch stations and then a French train from Paris to Bayeux (2hours 20 minutes) for around €20 pp. I'd focus on those two locations and cut out any other side trips, but allow a couple nights in Paris at the end. But that's just me.

If I understand this correctly, you are thinking of Amsterdam to London and then to Normandy? How did London end up on this itinerary if Amsterdam and Normandy are the main goals? Why not drop London? Again, you need to count nights, not days. With that short of a trip, at most I would just focus on Amsterdam and Normandy if you want both of your grads to be satisfied. Fly into Amsterdam, and return home from Paris. Or you could reverse that route depending on the flights that best suit your timeline.

Purchase your tickets for Anne Frank from their official site: "Tickets for the Anne Frank House are only for sale through this website, https://www.annefrank.org. Every Tuesday at 10am CEST, all tickets become available for a visit six weeks later. If there are no more tickets available on the selected date, we are sold out. There is no waiting list for tickets." Like other travelers, I too set my alarm to purchase tickets as soon as they became available.

What Gail said!! We did hi speed trains this past fall to London from Amsterdam. Train was cancelled. Track problems. It happens. Lost day and our hotel night. Then more trouble with trains within London and to Bath. More time lost. Just saying how you lose more time than you think traveling. We in US tend to think Europe is small and easy to get around! Not always. Not sure regional flying is the answer either?
This sounds like such fun for you three! We loved Normandy…Bayeux is wonderful! Amsterdam is amazing and their trains are great!

Thank you all! I am revamping our plan to Amsterdam and Normandy! Flying into Amsterdam and out of Paris.

Amsterdam and Normandy! Flying into Amsterdam and out of Paris.

Great itinerary. Amsterdam to Paris on the Eurostar is direct and straight-forward. You will need to transfer to a different station to get to Bayeux. You can take the metro, I suggest you spend the Euros for a taxi.

In Amsterdam, book all of your museum tickets in advance as they sell out. In Normandy, ensure your tour goes to the Germany cemetary. IMO contrasting the US and Germany cemetaries is an eye opening experience.

Instead of London, how about Bruges/Ostend Belgium? The Atlantic Wall Museum in Ostend is excellent. Easy day trip from Bruges.
