What is the best way and route to get to Bruges from Amsterdam. Does the train have to go through Brussels. I am thinking of a two day trip out of Amsterdam to include Antwerp and Bruges
Taking the train out of Amsterdam is the best way. The train goes through Antwerp on the the way to Brugges without going through Brussels. There are several trains during the day that leave Amsterdam to make this run. However, you may consider giving Brugges more than 1 day---it is wonderful. Happy Travels.
Trains run often from AMS centraal station to Antwerp (and on to Brugge). You have to change trains in Antwerp, but since you mentioned a stopover there.... Yes, Brugge is worth an overnight at least if you have it.
Agree, 2 days in Brugge. If you are there on I believe Saturdays they have a market day in the new town area.
Would definately recommend spending more than a day in Bruges, especially if you can make it there on a weekday/weeknight. On the weekends it is overrun with tourists that stop by only for a day trip. Evenings in Bruges are fantastic, and it is worth spending the night. Enjoy!
