I'm looking for a safe, clean, and affordable hostel or b&b in Amsterdam for 50 EUR a night or less. Preferably in the center of town if that isnt' too much to ask. I'm discovering A'dam is pretty expensive, but I'm a little too nervous to go the "cheap" route. Let me know if you guys know of any place! Thanks :)

To be honest 50 EUR a night for Amsterdam Centrum is a pretty big ask.
I don't know of anywhere in the Netherlands that meets your requirements for less than 60 EUR, and they're a long way from the 'Dam.

We stayed at Vondelpark Hostel. It's reasonably clean, seems safe and is affordable. It's near Vondelpark and is easy walking distance to the Reiksmuseum, Van Gogh museum and canal boat tours. Public transport is a couple of blocks away.
Many signs in the hostel said no drugs but I found a bag of pot on the stairs. We walked through Vondelpark, people were doing hard and soft drugs everywhere. I didn't think it was a good environment for families.
As far as Amsterdam goes, Vondelpark hostel is probably as good a bet as any. I'm not in a hurry to return to Amsterdam.
