Has anyone had uncomfortable situations while traveling in Europe now that Americans aren’t very well liked.

We Americans are not #47.

The rest of the world knows that.

Didn’t happen with Nixon why would it be different with 47!

We get this question every other day.

I'm in Europe now. I've been here nearly a month. I've been in two countries. It's never been an issue.

I'll be visiting eight more countries in the next three months. I don't expect any problems.

We have quite a few European residents on this forum. Non of them have reported any problems.

It is a pity and an embarrassment that we even have to consider this as a question. However, if it comes up, make your stance clear. No need to waffle or apologize. You are not them.

Well as a European, I would point out that this has gone much further than just a trade war, we read about in the newspaper. We have Ukrainian refugees all over Europe, these are people we interact with, have taken into our homes etc. This is personal and it is about our security and the fact that we can't trust the American voter not to do this a third time after Trump is gone....

I'm Irish by birth and Swiss by choice - two countries that used to be neutral, but not any more. Now both countries are providing technical knowhow, Switzerland intend join the new European Air Defence Alliance, we most likely will have a referenda on cancelling the order for F35s, Ireland is part of the EU's Nordic Battle Group, An Irish General is in charge of the EU's military command (which is independent of NATO). The trust is gone and it will take decades to restore.

The situation is changing very quickly and not in a good way, so I think it would be very foolish coming here not expecting to get some blow back. How much will depend on who you bump into and what the situation is at the time. But this time it is definitely personal.

I went to France in July 1973, the time of the Vietnam war, Watergate, the Dollar Crisis, a time known to be and perceived with ant-Americanism. Heard all sorts of such negative stories, went over anyway.

Bottom line: If you think that Americans are not enjoying their popularity and could be rudely received, treated, etc, does that present a deterrent. You have to decide.

I am not interested in that, could care less. I'm going over regardless in June.

I have American friends musicians that just came back from playing sold out concerts all over Europe. So where are you getting this not very well liked stuff? Some Americans tend to have a inflated sense of importance, are nosy and just go looking for trouble.

I live in France. No uncomfortable situations and Americans are as well liked as they always have been.

I'm not very well liked? Oh crud!!! I didn't notice .... and yet I live in Europe. Thanks for the heads up. One thing for sure i will stay out of Jim's Switzerland.

Actually Treemoss2 is correct.

It is a pity and an embarrassment that we even have to consider this
as a question.

I don't know why anyone would expect Europeans to behave differently than Americans would if the table were reversed. Why do people think less of Europeans than they fo of their own neighbors?

People seem to have never traveled to Europe during the Gulf War and the big anti-war protests in all the major capitals.

Trump administration is NOT popular in Europe. If you go around wearing your MAGA hat and yelling that America should own Greenland-then you may be given a hard time.

But most Americans won't be bothered and the worst you'll get is Europeans wondering how we could have voted for Trump a second time and wanting to know if it's really like the news reports.

You should be fine.
