Am I being greedy?

Maybe it's just me, but I had an extra spring in my step yesterday because I pulled the trigger on a flight to Glasgow in June to finally take my Scotland 2020 trip. But then this morning, I see a seat sale on direct flights to London for $600 in September. Hmmm, do I dare...or am I just wanting too much too soon?

If it helps you at all, I am holding tickets for two trips in 2022. I’m not getting any younger:)

Go for it!!! I’m going to Switzerland in June and Austria in Sept.

I returned yesterday from 12 weeks in Europe. I have another 12 week trip planned starting in April.

Ultimately, if you feel comfortable traveling, travel. If not stay home. Only you can decide.

Covid isn't going anywhere.

And what does it have to do with being greedy?

Yes, dare.
No, not too much too soon.
Scotland is your 2020 trip. London can be your 2021 trip. By my count you still have a 2022 trip to book. Refundable of course ;-)

I have two trips booked for this year, a 6 week and a 10 week. I have a Plan B figured out for both of them and everything can be cancelled. YOLO

All I can tell you is I’m going to take as many trips as I can afford in the time I have available from now on, and I’ll be very grateful for every trip I take.

I like Carroll's answer, especially the part about being grateful for every trip.

Stan and I can only take one trip this year, although we're doubling the amount of time we'll be gone. I'm hoping we can take two trips to Europe next year. This would mean cutting back on our volunteer (mostly political) activities here, but I'm willing and Stan is coming around.

I agree with Laurel's mantra "postpone nothing!"

Go for it Allan!

Here's my questions though - has anyone one found inexpensive refundable airfares...in case things surge yet again!?

Go for it! It's not being greedy but realistic. Echoing others, travel while you can, YOLO, postpone as little as possible. We are not guaranteed a future of good health and we're not getting younger. Take advantage of opportunities while you have them. We have two trips booked, one in February and one in April, understanding they may have to be postponed. After reading your post I will look at airfares for a September trip. While there are so many unknowns, we also want to make up for lost time, so we're hoping for the best but are able to postpone and/or cancel our reservations should we have to.

OK but ... just to temper the tone a bit, yes YOLO but you have to take realistic chances, realizing what could go wrong and be willing to deal with it. Damn the torpedoes is a great rallying cry but in many cases it is only uttered once.

No, you're not being greedy. If anything, I'd say your approach is inspiring. With the standard "cancellation policy and trip insurance" precautions that we all know by now, I'd say it's time to get back out there. I'm not a big fan of the uncertainty that this virus has brought about, but I'm even less of a fan of letting it sidetrack us for years. Time is precious and I don't want to lose any more than is absolutely necessary.

I say YOLO, but I’m also very cautious. I’ve cancelled an actual trip and put off others until it would be a better time. Now 2 years have passed, I'm vaccinated and boosted, and I can cancel everything at the last minute if I need to. We will go unless we can’t.

We too already have two international trips planned. Will plan another as soon as we get one done.

My view is to forget Europe for 2022. The risk of restrictions, closures, etc. is just too much.

We haven’t booked yet (not only because still waiting a bit on Omicron stability) but we are hoping for 3 trips this year to France and Italy. We are willing to do some last minute trip booking if needed.

We are likely seeing the beginning of the transition from pandemic to endemic so can’t put our travel lives on hold much longer. We do however plan to still travel very carefully including masks regardless of requirements.

To quote Freddy Mercury; "I want it all and I want it now."

That's not greed, that's ambition. That's confidence.

I was asked by someone recently if it's a good time to travel. I said yes if...

1) They are vaccinated;

2) They can, and are willing, to make changes to their original plans if necessary.

Go for it! We have 2 big international trips queued up for this year and actually took two to Mexico in 2021.

If I were in the position to do two trips, I'd jump on that for sure.

What airline had the seat sale?

Andrea, WestJet has the seat sale until January 7.

I like your thinking. We also have san Diego scheduled for February, but we've given ourselves a deadline of Jan 15 to cancel that one. Our main concern is how difficult the government is making it to get back into Canada.

We are working on a second trip to celebrate a 70th bday .... we are not getting any younger. We have a trip with friends planned in May/June and hope to return early September.
