What will the weather and temperature most likely be in the French Alps (Chamonix and Annecy) during the first week of August? Will it be much cooler than in Paris? Will we need to bring warmer clothes? Also, if we plan to take a lift to the top of one of the mountains on one of the days, will we need heavier coats than say a sweatshirt and a raincoat? Thanks for your help everyone!

No one here can tell you what the weather will be there when you're there. But the link below will give you some idea of what it might be, based on the last ten years or so of weather data for your time frame in a given location

When you get about a week from your time there, the usual weather websites will provide a 7-day forecast, but it's a little too early for that right now.
