All Topics view

We've got a fair number of new folks to the forum so I thought I'd just post a reminder on an easy way to look at the forum. There is an ALL TOPICS view where you can see every post listed from every forum from the most recent post. I just scroll down and pick what I want to read.

This also means I see every post. I don't pay much attention to the name of the forum so no need to ask people to post in a different spot. If people are looking at the All Topics view, they'll see everything and be able to respond regardless of the forum spot.

The link is here on the home page of the forums:

Or just go straight there. I have this bookmarked on my laptop, phone and iPad Mini so I don't faff around looking for stuff.

Right now traffic on the forum has really picked up with people planning for travel this year. The posts from today extend back to Page 3 but I don't really find it a chore to scan down the list picking topics that sound interesting to me or ones I think I might be able to help with.

I usually do a quick scan of the front page of the travel forum and then if I have time, move onto the All Topics view. Isn’t it wonderful to be back into a very active forum again now that people are traveling much more? It makes me happy to see so many posts!

When I first started on the forum, I used to just look at the specific country, but now I look at the All Topics page to see what strikes my fancy. I have learned so much, and my travel list has gotten so long!

I think I've always looked at All Topics. I knew so little about traveling that I didn’t even know which topic to look for. I’m amazed how much I’ve learned in 6 years! And I have so much more to learn and places to visit.

Pam, good idea to remind folks, especially those new to the forum, about the All Topics view. It's a very handy way of checking out new posts and reviewing others you may have posted on.

Me too…All Topics is the only way I view the forum:)

Love the "All Topics" view! Keeps me reading (and sometimes posting) on topics I wouldn't necessarily find if I was combing through by country only.

Thanks Pam. I am happy to embarrass myself and say that until you or someone brought this up just a few (a couple ?) months ago, I had no idea !!!

I had no idea this existed!
Thanks, Pam!!

I suspect most of us didn't find the ALL TOPICS button until we've been here a while. Even those of us who actually read things before posting.

Oh excellent! I'm happy this is helpful to even some of the more experienced forum members. I think maybe when the forum first went to this site Andrew, the webmaster, mentioned it so that is where I think I saw it.

For myself it's just so much easier than clicking back and forth to different forums.

back in the Graffiti Wall and Helpline days - predecessors to these Forums - it was the default. I've looked at all posts sequentially for a decade or more, although with such an explosion in posts recently I just skim the titles and stop on some, like this one.

Good reminder and education for newer folks, Pam.

I’ve noticed today that in All Topics, the sections I look at most are in grey, the others are blue.
I never look at the Norway forum for example, so it’s in blue.
This is on my IPad.

SJ, yes, if you open a country or a forum it will turn gray. I've just tested it on Spain, lol, and opening a thread doesn't turn the country gray but clicking on the country does. I'm on my laptop right now but I am assuming it's the same on the tablet or phone.

I just do the All Topics and scroll past things that aren’t currently applicable or I know nothing about. It does help when I see something I want to bookmark for future travel. I still haven’t found a quick and easy way, other than bookmarking, to find previous trip reports or restaurant reviews. Looking in the archives and even limiting the timeline doesn’t always get me to posts I remember.

I love All Topics! I have read trip reports for places I never considered - like Poland and Egypt. I get sucked into discussions about the best Greek islands to visit, and how to negotiate train stations in cities I have never otherwise considered. "Beyond Europe" offers up all kinds of discussions that I totally enjoy.

Pam, thanks for the tip.

I first arrived here with 2 to 3 specific countries in mind. But with more time spent here, I've migrated out to other topics, and I've learned a lot. The "All Topics" view is a nice broad stroke to view what's going on.

Thanks Pam!
Excellent thread! This is such helpful information for everyone, but especially for those new to the forum.
I like to sit down (at the computer) in the morning with my first cup of coffee and go directly to All Topics to see what's happening on the forums.

Nigel, I remember those days. I think that’s why I always use the All Topics now. :)

Thanks for the memories of the graffiti wall, Nigel. That’s what the forum was called when I first found it, too. I actually never explored beyond the all topics page. I’m not sure I knew I could! It is wonderful to see so many new posters joining!
