Algarve to Granada

Hi, I was wondering if there is a city/town (other than Seville) that is half way/on the way from Algarve Portugal to Granada, Spain. I have been to Seville already and wanted to go somewhere different. Any suggestions? BTW, we won't have a car so need to get there by bus/train. Thanks

The white hill towns would be a great stopping point roughly half-way between. But they're difficult to do without a car. Getting from the Algarve to southern Spain can be more challenging than most people expect - there are no trains. You can go by bus. We started in Faro (dropped our Portugal car there), took a bus, a ferry, and another bus to the nearest town in Spain with a car rental agency, then drove off to the white hill towns for a couple days (and loved them). Then drove to Granada, dropped the car there, used trains after that.

Surely there are two score or more- 'that is half way/on the way from Algarve Portugal to Granada' - take the map and 'google'. What floats your boat? Same answer for the transport aspect, as regularly - http://www.algarvebus.info/001.htm

Erin - We rented our "Portugal car" in Lisbon, drove it to (and around) the Algarve. Dropped the car in Faro, took a bus to Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal, which sits on a river that forms the Portuguese-Spanish border. We then walked a short distance to a tiny ferry, which took us across the river to Ayamonte, Spain, where we grabbed a bus to the town of Huelva - the closest Spanish town with a rental car agency, where we picked up another car for our onward journey. It was a bit of a project and ate up most of a day, but saved something like 500 Euros for the drop-off fee. We drove through the white hill towns for a couple days, and dropped the "Spain car" in Granada. Hope that helps.

Thanks David. I think I may end up taking the bus to Huelva and then the train to Granada. Not sure if it would be worth renting a car for just a night, which is all we have given the itinerary (even though stopping in these villages sounds fun).
