Which airport would you recommend flying into if you want visit Salzburg?
Thank you
We flew into Munich and took the train to Salzburg.
We also flew into Munich and took the train to Salzburg. We purchased our train tickets when we arrived at the train station. Trains between the two cities run frequently - travel time is less than 2 hours.
Salzburg has an airport, but the train station is more central to the city.
Nothing in Salzburg is far from the center of town.
Flying into the Salzburg airport may involve an extra stop somewhere, although there is the possibility to fly Air Berlin from LAX to Dusseldorf and transfer there to Salzburg airport. Lufthansa also has a one-stop flight but it is considerably more expensive. Note that our daughter took that Air Berlin flight from LAX last Thursday and it ran very late. I don't know if that is a pettern or a common event, but you might want to check. They missed their connection at Dusseldorf so it took a much longer time to reach their destination than expected. If you fly into Munich, you can do that non-stop from LAX on Lufthansa. That would be my first choice, since the train travel between the two is so short.
We flew into Vienna, stayed a few days, and then took the train to Salzburg.
