Airports near Cinque Terre

I am staying in the Cinque Terre for a few days and wish to know the best and most convenient nearby airport from which I can depart coming back home to US. I've been told Pisa or Florence.. Also, how do I get there to airport? ...thanks!

If you have a choice, PISA (PSA) is closer to the CT and actually has a train station at the aiport. You would train from the CT to La Spezia, change trains for transit to Pisa Centrale and then change trains again for the airport. The Florence airport does not have a rail connection. You would bus or taxi to it from the Florence train station. Genova is another option (GOA) but i don't know about the rail connections.

For flying back to the U.S., you will most likely fly to another large airport in th EU for the flight back to the U.S. Air France, British Airways and Lufthansa all fly out of Pisa but only to their home countries. Delta is the only U.S. carrier that flies out of Pisa and they fly only to JFK. The airport in Florence has no U.S. carriers. But, the U.S. carriers have partners. United has Lufthansa. We've flown from Sacramento to Florence on United to LAX and then Lufthansa to Florence via Frankfurt. Everything was fine. Here's a link to the Pisa airport where you can see the airlines flying in and out of Pisa. http://www.pisa-airport.com/aeroporto_di_pisa_102.html. For a more robust ion of U.S. carriers, it's Rome-FCO or Milan. Both are 4hrs away from the CT.
