Airport and Luggage Questions

As I find myself getting closer to departure, I keep thinking up new questions. Go figure.

I was thinking about purchasing some of the TSA locks for our luggage. Since they're sold on this website, I'm assuming that no one has had issues with using them in Europe?

Anything majorly different about European airports I should be aware of? I mean, currently, in US airports, we have to have certain items in a clear ziploc, take off our shoes, etc. I plan on checking out websites, but thought it might be helpful to get advice from people who have been there, done that.

Some foreign airports will be able to open the locks, others will cut them. (Same story here in the U.S.

In Europe, ziploc bag rules are the same, but shoes stay on.

TSA locks only work in the US. Foreign airport security are not part of TSA. And even in the US they might cut them off if they don't have their key handy. A better and much cheaper method is to use plastic cable ties.

I have always used TSA locks -- in the US, in Europe, and in Asia. Most recently, my bag was inspected in London before returning to Chicago (there was a note in my bag verifying this). My TSA lock was still in place, uncut, so they must be able to open them at Heathrow.

Leaving Paris last weekend, everyone had to take off shoes. I had to remove a lightweight cardigan sweater.

I have used TSA locks on my luggage since they became available. I travel thru Europe every summer and have never had them cut off but have had them opened and found a letter inside the suitcase. I do find them opened in US travel more often. Luck of the draw?

I always use TSA locks and have never had them cut off except once. On a United flight directly to Zurich and the dumb airline but some plastic lock on that I wouldn't have been able to get off if I hadn't borrowed scissors from the front desk at the hotel.
