Airfare Sales to Paris

Can I expect any airfare sales to Paris for fall 2011 travel? Which airlines other than Air Lingus (food is the worst). When? Which websites should I register with?

Dear Hooked, This is a tough and vague question you pose, when do you plan on traveling; September, October, November? No one can predict airfare prices so here is my 2 cents. Daily: 1.) Check sights like FareCompare.com and Kayak.com 2.) Check airline websites especially on Tuesdays around 3 PM EST. Last September I started looking for airfares to Italy for travel in November, I checked daily several of the major airline websites, kayak and farecompare and my good fortune held up. British Air went on strike in October and to capture market share Air France ran a special that was $600 less expensive per ticket than any previously posted prices, so I snapped up two tickets. The food on Air France was superb and the service was spectacular. If fuel costs remain high, airfares will too. If travelers balk at higher air fares there may be an air fare war and prices may come down.
If there is NO huge upset in the world such as a major war, airfares may come down, stabilize or go up. Get it--the future is tough to predict. Ciao!

Who knows?? If I knew the definite answer to that question I would be sending you an invoice for my services. My GUESS is that you find some bargains out of NY simply because of the market. I would register with all the web site. No one web site is better than the other. You can look at farecompare.com for trends. Set a number you can live with and when it gets close, buy. It is nearly impossible to get the cheapest ticket unless you are very lucky.

I would hesitate to choose an airline based on the food they serve. You can always bring food with you on the plane if you expect the food to be bad and the ticket is saving you significant dollars. Plus if you're going to Paris, you'll have wonderful food to look forward to.

Last winter, Paris remained consistently higher than other locales I was keeping an eye on. There are so many factors impacting fares, however, it's hard to say with any accuracy what to expect. Generally, mid to late November, pre-Christmas break December, January, February, and March (except spring break time) are more reasonable for fares across the board. Set a figure you're comfortable with, and start watching fares using several search engines and airline sites. As soon as you see a fare you can handle, purchase it without any delay...it might be gone in the time it takes you to call your travel partner. This was the case earlier this year for about 30 minutes to an hour or so...Delta had issues on their website, and people on this Helpline were finding RT fares all over Europe for around mid $300 total for April/May (which, of course, was unbelievable). The problem was fixed, and the fares were gone by lunch. BTW, if you're looking for a truly great airline, look at Swiss. Happy planning!

For my July trip Paris was just a LOT more costly then London and that's with the MUCH higher British taxes. So I am flying into London and taking the train to Paris. Even with that it's still several hundred dollars cheaper! Just give yourself LOTS of time (I generally give myself 4 hours to make any "non protected" connection like this!)
