Airfare question.

I’m just asking as I know no one can predict prices. I’m looking to buy tickets to Munich in early December. Last weekend the prices were approx. $800. Now the prices are $950. Per personal experiences, do they tend to become more expensive the nearer the date of departure?

I reported the prior post to the RS Internet Machine Traffic Cop.

Paul-Airfare is all over the place and various flight predictor sites are available to view. With your trip dates being approximately 60 days away, I would assume the fares will only increase at this juncture. I would jump on it now.

Looking at approximately 2 months until early December, I'd expect prices to rise. If the price was recently in the $800 range. It had probably sat at that price for some time without significant up or down movement. As availability dwindles and travel date gets close it'll be inching up.

Of course, how exactly depends on the airline.

I agree that they are all over the place. I booked a flight in late March of next year for around $930 a few months ago, and it's been up and down since then. The biggest jump was a few weeks ago when it shot up to $2,217. I have no idea why there was such a huge jump but a few days later it came back down.

My strategy is to buy it when it gets to a price I can live with. Depending on what kind of ticket you buy, you can always cancel and rebook with a lower price.

Thank you. Well, I guess $950 isn’t too bad for RT on Lufthansa non stop both ways.

I track flights and prices on Google Flights, and the more I do it, the more I believe there is no rhyme or reason to short term moves in price. Track them, and pull the trigger when you see a price you can stomach.

Don't over think it.

Munich Airport is mostly intra European. To get from and to the U.S., you're limited to United Airlines and Lufthansa's flights. Closest to you would be Newark on United Airlines.

Just not enough competition on non-stop flights.
