Airbnb COVID-19 Cancellations

Airbnb has finally extended its "Extenuating Circumstances Policy" regarding COVID-19 for bookings between March 14 and October 15 (for reservations made on or before March 14). This is good news for us. We had booked a lovely Airbnb in Scotland for the night of Oct 6th (before our wonderful RS Tour). Waiting for them to extend the dates was a bit nerve racking, however we received a full refund quickly and with no fuss. The process is MUCH smoother than it was last March. Because of this, there's no question that we'll use Airbnb in the future - just before our next RS Tour!

I had 3 Airbnb reservations for this month with strict cancellation policies. Rather than waiting for Airbnb to extend the dates for cancellation I reached out to the owners in July. I explained the situation and told them that rather than waiting to cancel I wanted to give them the opportunity to give me a refund and that allow them more time to be able book my dates. They were all very understanding and graciously refunded what I had paid. I’m happy that Airbnb now allows a search option to just see places that can be cancelled. I had booked places (some Airbnb and some other places) spanning a period of 6 weeks. I am so thankful that we received every penny back that we had put out, including the airline tickets that we booked with miles. United didn’t charge us a cancellation fee.
