plan to take a netbook to Europe for 3 months next month, any advice on an air card for data roaming sans internet?
Joe, I'm not entirely clear on your question. You want data roaming without internet??? You might find it helpful to read this Thread: www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/70763/for-overseas-data-use-local-prepaid-is-best-solution.html Cheers!
to make somewhat more clear - want to get on the internet while not at a WIFI location from my netbook. use to check email and make advance reservations/get tickets for local events or train travel and hotels.
Joe, I've used a USB stick from T-Mobile U.K. in a previous trip. The data rate was good in the U.K. and decent elsewhere in Europe. Check out the U.K. cell providers and see what they offer. You can find their web sites with a google search. Getting data from a local cell company is definitely the way to go. Every other option is way, way too expensive. If you aren't going to the U.K. first or at all, you might have some success getting the necessary hardware and credit off ebay.
I actually posted a similar question two summers ago. Since then I did notice the air card sticks for sale at various places throughout Europe, but to tell you the truth, I never needed it. There was wifi everywhere.
