Has anybody flown. Experience bwith Aeroloft airlines to Europe from the U.S.? I see that they have great prices but I hear bad or mixed reviews about them
I believe this is the most recent thread on the subject of Aeroflot Russian airline, with plenty of discussion: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany/does-anyone-know-anything-about-the-russian-airline-areoflot. You can find earlier threads by using the gray search box above for the term "Aeroflot" (note spelling).
Their rates are based on trying to bring some cash into the country. Look closely at the transfers. Do you really want to fly to Moscow so you can then fly back to your destination? Russia is also hard core regarding immigration, don't expect to leave the airport during a layover unless you also apply for a tourist visa (more than $150).
The fact that you found "mixed" reviews really surprises me.
If you're really budget fliers, look into flying LAX to Europe through Turkish Airlines and Istanbul.
It's out of the way, but it's supposedly a really nice airline to fly.
Fine airline but the prices are cheap in part because of the crazy long layovers in Moscow for nearly every flight to Europe from the US. Not worth the savings in my opinion.
Look up the accident records
Aeroflot's mainline international service is acceptably safe. It wouldn't be allowed to fly into EU airspace if there were issues. (The EU has a very long list of banned carriers including just about every commercial air service from Indonesia save about five companies. They're serious about that kind of thing) It's the regional domestic Russian carriers that have the really scary numbers.
