Aer Lingus/British Airways Opinion

My wife and I will be heading back to Germany in September. This is the first time we'll be taking Aer Lingus or BOAC. Is there anything I should know about either one? Also we have a 6 hour layover in Dublin, we arrive in the morning at 11:30. Would it be easy enough to get to Dublin from the airport, I'm assuming that I'll be able to clear immigration instead of hanging out at the airport.

Well, if you're expecting a flight on BOAC you will need a time machine. BOAC disappeared many years ago.

BOAC? Are you sure you are not on Laker Airways?

Dublin is easy to get to but you won't have much time. Assume 30 minutes to one hour from arrival to get through everything (walking immigration, customs). 45 minutes to one hour each way to get into Dublin depending on mode of transport and traffic, arriving back at the airport two hours ahead of time. At minimum that's four hours. At most it's five hours. You will have little time for anything.

The only time I flew BA, it was in biz class. Well taken care of, both in the air and on the ground. Never been on Aer Lingus.
BA biz class a bit better than AA or Delta.

Frank II covered the layover issue.

I've taken Aer Lingus a few times and loved it. I may have been biased because we had a fun Irish flight crew that kept us well taken care of, and kept us laughing. Nice planes and great overall experience.

Flew BOAC in the early seventies on the old VC10s - different era.

Only flew Aer Lingus once last summer (BOS-DUB and SNN-BOS). I would classify them just a short step above an LCC. Short flights - but service was poor, seats not very comfortable (esp on the 767s). Charge for wine which even United serves for free these days. If I have a choice I would not fly them.
