Advice on draft Itinerary

I have an upcoming 4 week Europe booked in Mid July to Mid August during peak summer and would like some feedback on my draft itinerary.
I have fixed start and end cities, Tickets to some Olympic events and a Spain/Portugal tour, all marked with * the other days I haven't booked yet. Just an idea to train to Strasbourg on way to Reims, instead of going Frankfurt to Paris then back out to Reims,

So far I have

Day 1 - arrive Frankfurt 7am *
Day 2 - Frankfurt
Day 3 - Frankfurt
Day 4 - Train from Frankfurt to Strasbourg
Day 5 - Train from Strasbourg to Reims, France
Day 6 - Reims
Day 7 - Reims
Day 8 - Reims
Day 9 - Train from Reims to Versailles *
Day 10 - Olympics *
Day 11 - Olympics*
Day 12 - Olympics *
Day 13 - morning tour in Versailles - fly to Lisbon
Day 14 - Lisbon
Day 15 - Lisbon
Day 16 - Lisbon
Day 17 - Free day in Lisbon - evening start tour - tour accom
Day 18 - Free day in Lisbon on tour - tour accom
Day 19-26- Spain & Portugal Tour, starting in Lisbon, finishing in Barcelona. * (1 night tour accom, but only a night tour)
Day 27 - Barcelona
Day 28 - Fly Barcelona to Rome
Day 29 - Rome
Day 30 - Fly out from Rome midday *

i like to see main attractions, a walking tour/bike tour of places, seeing good views, some local restaurants, not really into galleries, will visit a few museums,

hayleyjm,
Congratulations on your upcoming trip. I just have a couple of comments. Strasbourg has much more to offer than Reims. Reims deserves 2-3 days max, in my opinion...one day to visit the cathedral, the museum of rendition, and maybe an in-town tour of a champagne house; a second day for a tour to Epernay and some champagne/wine tasting. I would take two days from there and add them to Strasbourg. There is much more to see and do in Alsace...the beautiful Strasbourg cathedral, nearby Colmar, and nearby charming villages, plus great food. I suggest a guidebook (e.g. RS) check of all there is to see and do in Alsace.
Also, is there a particular reason for flying to Rome for what is basically one day? If you can fly home from Barcelona you will have time to see more of Barcelona, or take a day trip to Figueras to see the Salvador Dali Museum. And you won't lose a day in transit.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip!

My reaction to the Reims/Strasbourg times was the same as Judy's (I found Reims just not all that attractive aside from the cathedral), and I also agree about Barcelona/Rome. It doesn't appear you'll have much time in Barcelona.

I would scrap the entire first 9 days and replace them with Munich - Switzerland - Colmar.

It sounds like your tour will start with a few days in Lisbon so maybe fly from Paris to Porto instead and then head to Lisbon to start your tour. Or maybe give yourself extra time in Paris for sightseeing if you can't get much done during the Olympics.

Change your flight home to Barcelona to spend extra time there if you can. It's pointless to deal with the extra cost, time and airport hassle for one hectic day in Rome, even if you got a good deal on airfare home.

Hi Judy, thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately airline doesn't fly from Barcelona home (China Southern), I originally had a few more days in the itinerary but with the last flight change I reduced the days away instead of extending by 3, as coming back to no job, so made the quick decision to go shorter.

hayleyjm,
Well, with your airline limitations, you still have one full day in Barcelona. When in Spain a few years back, we had only one day there also, and managed to visit the Sagrada Familia cathedral (don't miss!), the Parc Gueuel (sp?), and the Picasso Museum (unless you are a fan of Picasso, I would skip it), and a "ramble" and meal on Las Ramblas. Get your tickets for the cathedral for as early in the day as possible. You can walk to the Parc afterwards and spend about an hour there. We took the bus down the hill to the area of the Picasso Museum, or you could take a bus (don't remember the system) to the top of Las Ramblas and wander down to the harbor from the top.
With one full day in Rome, you will have to pick and choose. Several things to see are near to each other, or within a reasonable walking distance: the Coliseum, the Forum, the Capitoline Museum, and Trajan's Column. Also, the church of St. Peter in Chains is nearby (Michelangelo's Moses statue). Check out the many sights in a guidebook to prioritize your options for your full day. (And I may well have made the sights seem closer to each other than they are. Definitely, research the Rome options.) And if your flight to Romes gets you there early enough, you could enjoy a passegiato on that first evening.
Have a wonderful trip. You have lots to look forward to. Enjoy!
