Additional medical insurance besides Delta Vacations package?

We have insurance through Delta Vacation for two in our party. It will cover flight delay, interruption (purchased before the volcano), and limited medical. Do we need to purchase additional medical?

I am meeting up with another daughter a week earlier and purchasing a medical plan for myself because I did not have trip insurance (unfortunately). The medical limits are much higher than those offered by Delta. The daughter I'm meeting up with also has additional medical insurance.

I am a believer in some medical insurance but will I be overdoing it if I buy more insurance for the two with Delta Vacations?

Our own insurance does cover emergency expenses. I am more concerned about medical evacuation or illness which can get very expensive. Also, paying for the expenses upfront could be very expensive.

If your own health insurance will reimburse you for medical expenses incurred while travelling after your Delta Trip Mate insurance is exhausted, your primary issue might be medical evacuation coverage. Frankly, it doesn’t sound like Trip Mate covers much nor was worth it, unless it came with your vacation at little to no cost. I might recommend using insuremytrip as already mentioned and go with a basic yet comprehensive plan that covers everything you mentioned and a lot more. To give you an idea regarding cost, I purchased Travelex Basic for $76 last fall. If you go with a better policy, can you cancel and get a refund on your Trip Mate? Having 3 policies seems like overkill to me, but you’re not currently covered for med evacuation.

I just looked closer at the Delta policy and it is secondary to my health insurance so first I have to exhaust that before they kick in. I may buy a policy through Travelex just to cover the gap.

It does seem like overkill - unless something happens of course, and then I will be grateful for the extra insurance. The hard part is reading about people who purchase medical insurance and then are not covered for some small loophole.

That’s interesting about the Delta plan being secondary. I recall that most (maybe all) of the basic policies I considered were for primary coverage. BTW, Travelex is just one option…lots of other good options available as you’ll see on insuremytrip. Good luck!
