Accommodations particularly pricey for summer?

Having booked something like 10 summer trips in a row now, it sure seems that way to me. Availability is quite low and prices are quite high basically everywhere I'm looking.

Confirm or deny? It has me wondering if I've just lost my finding decent rooms for not too much mojo.

My strategy is to get some things on the books that can be canceled and then continue to work at ferreting out more optimal places (and hopefully cheaper) if it's possible to find them.

What I was really thinking though was maybe the rest of you could stay home this summer? It would make things so much more convenient for me thanks 🙏😁

As the boards have noted the desire to travel has increased meaning that all hotels/apt have gone up over the last 4 years. And people are willing to pay the money. Business will charge as much as the consumer will allow and it seems like the limit has not been reached.

I like the strategy of getting something in place and then changing if necessary.

I tend to make my reservations as far in advance as I can (fully refundable) and always watch the prices rise afterwards…

This year I agreed to travel with my son and daughter-in-law at a particular time in September. If you want hotel shock, just look at Munich during Oktoberfest.

Fuel, labor shortages, and good old supply-and-demand capitalism. With China fully opening up it's going to be interesting.

Looking at some of these prices we're thinking about visiting stateside destinations next year. There is a lot in this vast country we would like to see.

Hank, that made me laugh! Nope, not staying home! For the trip we have booked for Iceland this summer, I made sure to book early so that we could have places we liked, but also not outrageously priced. Now the first ten days are in a camper van, so the campsights will cost us about $20 US dollars per night. I booked the van far enough in advance to get a discount and it is the same price as what we would have paid for a larger/nicer vehicle. The other 6 nights are around $250 US dollars per night. Three of those nights are in a rustic hut, but that is the going price and we want to hike there, so we are at their mercy. The other nights are on a small island, so again options were limited.

We are trying to book for a weekend in CA to see mom over her birthday. I have been traveling down there every week in the fall, and lately every couple of weeks, and price/availability has not been an issue. For her birthday though, that is not the case and I am trying to get my brother to commit so we can book asap as flights and Airbnbs are booking up fast.

I do stay home in the summer. I do not like traveling during the season and usually travel September or October. This used to be the shoulder season meaning less expensive, less crowded and cooler weather.

I will not be traveling this summer but instead staying inside my air conditioned apartment . I live in Texas.
