Can anyone recommend a decent place to stay in Lake Hallstat that doesn't cost a fortune??? Having trouble finding a place. Does anyone know what Rick Steves recommends? We have guidebooks for Germany, Switzerland, Portugal and France, but no Austria. Help!

Are you referring to the town of Hallstatt? Also it would help to have some idea on your price criteria and what you consider a "fortune"?
One of the best hotels in Hallstatt is the Seehotel Grüner Baum, but admittedly it's a bit pricey. If you'd like something a bit more "modest" (next door to Grüner Baum), have a look at Gasthof Simony which I would highly recommend.
