accessing second checking via ATM while in France

I will be traveling to France (Provence and Paris) in Oct. I will be using my ATM/Debit Check Card (other credits for major purchases, etc.) for cash withdraws. My check card is attached to my savings and two checking accounts. Can I access the second checking account or only my primary? I have this second account just for this trip. If I must, I will consolidate both checking accounts or open another checking account at another bank or credit union. Any advice will be helpful.

Thanks

Ann

You will only be able to access your primary checking account. You may want to consider signing up for your institution's home banking service. With it you can easily transfer money between your accounts from any computer connected to the Internet. This way you don't have to go through the hassle of opening/closings accounts, you can work with what you already have.

I think it would very wise to have two debit cards tied to two completely different accounts. That way if one card is lost or more likely damaged or becomes unreadable, you have a fall back card. This past summer in Italy I did find one terminal that offered a choice of accounts. Have no idea if it would have worked or not. I stayed with the default choices. And it was the first and only time I have seen this and a number of other choices were offered that made me nervous. I don't like change when dealing with my money.
