We are newbies, visiting both Amsterdam and Pisa/Cinque Terre. I think I am up to date with the 110/220 discussion, but are AC power plugs for the Netherlands and Italy the same?
YES, only England is different.
Thank you very much!
The pins for Italy are slightly smaller in diameter (5/32") than the pins in Dutch (Schuko) plugs (3/16"). The pins in a Dutch plug might not fit into an Italian receptacle (too big). However, a Dutch wall receptacle will accept the smaller pins of an Italian plug. A "Europlug" adapter, which is what most sold in travel stores in the the U.S. are, has the smaller pins and will fit in receptacles in either country. BTW, the two pin Europlug is ungrounded and is legal for no more than 2½ amps (~600 watts). In other words, no hair dryers.
