Aachen:.carolus-thermen

I was there a few years ago, but unlikely to return. We love Aachen, but weren't impressed by the Thermen there.

We are pretty picky, though, and know what we like. What you like may be different.

We found the pools not warm enough for us, and the waterfall - while pleasant - was nothing out of the ordinary and not as warm as we would have liked.

Lots of kids, free parking, decent changing rooms, I don't remember anything at all about the sauna area. Didn't like the decor, didn't like the outside river current much.

I know that sounds pretty damning but its is how we took it. I hope you get other answers here that are more positive...

I read some rave reviews on TA, but also some of the negative ones...

Pool not being warm enough would not work for me. I was thinking of it as being more therapeutic...so lovely warm water

Yes, several.

Not very far from Aachen - easy by car, bus+bus+bus from Aachen without, on the German Dutch border is Thermae 2000 which we loved. Fabulous sauna area, inside and out with associated pools and loungers and sauna area bar and restaurant - all textile free in that area. The aroma area and coloured light areas are excellent.

Also really good swimming areas and water jets and currents and toys - all mandatory bathing suit in that area.

They have excellent locker areas, some single sex but mostly mixed, very clean, very bright, good food.

Excellent reception area, easy parking. They also have a hotel if you want to stay over.

Our favourite of all is still Eigen Keidel Bad near Freiburg im Breisgau in the southern Black Forest - a bit far from Aachen.
