AA branded credit cards

Not sure what category to put this in so I put it here.

American Airlines will drop its branded credit card with Barclay's bank in favor of Citi Card.

It currently offers cards at both institutions. The change will take place in January of 2026.

Citi has purchased Barclay's American Airline card business and will transition Barclay AA cards to Citi AA cards unless you tell them different.

I think they've been working on this for a while, it never made sense to have AA cards from two different banks. A legacy of buying Alaska Airlines I think. I turned my AA Citi card into a Costco card a few years ago.

No, AA acquired the deal with Barclays when it bought USAir.

American did not buy Alaska. They are just in the same alliance.

We've had AA Citibank cards for years. A couple of years ago, the flight attendants on an AA flight peddled the Barclays AA cards with a no-annual-fee-the first year, minimal use required, healthy bonus miles awarded card. My husband and I both applied (why not - nothing ventured, nothing gained) and were both accepted. If my recollection is correct, we only had to use the card at least once for any purchase amount. None of the spend x dollars in y months to get the bonus miles. I held onto the accounts for a couple of months, made sure we got our bonus miles posted to our accounts, then we called to cancel both. No sales pitch or attempt to convince us to keep the cards. Easiest bonus miles I've ever obtained!
