A Newbie Question about Thalys

We, a family of four, are traveling from Paris to Amsterdam on Thalys in August.

I'm thinking about buying the tickets that leave at 7:24pm and arrive at 10:42pm to maximize our time in Paris. My question is, once we get to the Amsterdam station, will there be public transportation such as subway and buses running that late at to get us to the hotel? Our hotel is near the Schiphol airport... If not, I need to book for an earlier time.

No problem at that time. I have stayed many times by Schipol at the Ibis Hotel. And I have seen that most of the hotels out there run a shuttle til 1am. So Book the Thalys from Paris Gare du Nord direct to Amsterdam Schipol and not Amsterdam Central. Look on the hotel website for shuttle information.

Oh my goodness! I would have booked to Amsterdam Central if it weren’t for your advice! Thank you so much! But we are staying at Novotel Amsterdam Schiphol and I’m not sure if they have a shuttle service from the airport... Would other public transportation run at that hour?

Ask the hotel as I see there buses and a train at the airport that stop at the hotel;

or take the taxi it only is 5 minutes drive away from Schipol airport train stop; I see that hotel all the time it is distinctive architecturally from anything by the airport ; there is a secure taxi stand out front of the Airport entrance.

It should say somewhere on the Novotel website. I remember that all the Accor properties around Schiphol have one shuttle bus that makes a circuit between all and the airport fairly frequently. It is (or was) a medium sized coach, maybe a 20 seater or so, and I remember one driver spending more time trying to get his music cassettes (yes it still has cassettes) playing the way he wanted than driving. The other drivers were OK. I don't remember what level Accor we were staying at, either an Ibis or Suitehotel probably.

23.00 isn't late for either the hotels or the airport. Maybe see if you can find the shuttle - if it appeals to you - and if not just pop in a taxi.

If you don't mind me asking, why are you staying there? If you want to visit Amsterdam, it would be a lot more convenient to stay in central Amsterdam. You would have to get a train from Hoofddorp to Amsterdam Centraal every day and then back again.

Thalys trains stop at Amsterdam Schiphol before Amsterdam Centraal. According to this map https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/52.29238/4.69947 Novotel Amsterdam Schiphol is a short walk from Hoofddorp station
Picking a random date (DB website) I found:

Paris Nord depart 19:25, THA 9381, Schiphol (Airport) arrive 22:24
Schiphol (Airport) depart 22:30, RE 4674, Hoofddorp arrive 22:34

Chris, we are staying there because of the cost and also its proximity to the airport.

It's the last city before we fly back to the States, and since we are leaving pretty early in the morning, I wanted it to be close to the airport. Also, the further away from the city center, the cheaper the prices are... I don't know if it's practical or even possible, but I'm trying to come under or at $5000 for my family of four for the entire trip cost...!

We have stayed in Hoofddorp 4 times now because the cost savings make a real difference. Taking the train to and from Hoofddorp is so easy; moreover, the trains run very often to Amsterdam Centraal.

Continental, that is good to know! Since I've never been to Europe, everything I'm finding out is through this forum and online research. But the likes of you have been very very helpful. So, thank you!
