a guidebook stressing beautiful walks, parks, nature etc

Does anyone know if Rick or anyone else has a Europe guidebook concentrating on accessible beautiful walks, trails, moderate hikes, coastal and lake shorelines etc. Not necessarily about epic alpine adventure climbs, more like about a moderate walking trail from one little town in Germany to the next, or a Swiss lake walking trail.
Generally I've found that such nature experiences are interspersed within regular guidebooks, but I'm looking for one that primarily focuses on them.

I'm sure that you'd have the best luck looking country by country, and Germany, Austria, and Switzerland would be good candidates, as would the UK, where they have many public rights of way. For instance, here's a search on Amazon for walking Switzerland and one for Alfred Wainright who was well known for this topic in the UK.

You'll need to narrow it down a bit! Focus on a particular country and take it from there. There are numerous books on walks within the UK for example and likewise there'll be plenty for other countries as well.

Do you need the guidebook to help you decide where to go? If not and you already know where in Europe you want to go, I have found that the best resource for that type of information are the various tourist information websites for that locale - that includes city/town websites and general information websites like Trip Advisor. Then when you arrive, you can check the local TI or visitor information office for maps and other info.

Web sites Germany.Travel and MySwitzerland.com. It is very difficult to find guide books specific to walks, hikes or activities. Specific walks in England and Spain (Camino) can be found on Amazon. Lonely Planet can guide you toward searches for activities. I have found once I am in a location the tourist office will have information or a leaflet.

A few years ago I bought a general guidebook to give me inspiration when in Europe. It is called "Classic Walks in Western Europe". All of these walks are longer distance walks, 4-5 days but I've adapted and taken a few segments when I spent time in a country near these scenic beauties.

I do recommend the above suggestions to narrow down where you want to go then look for manageable walks in your region. Every tourist office or city I've been in has lovely maps and suggestions for walks from their little corner of the world, much more managible and practice IMHO.

If you are going to be at the travel meeting on Saturday, I'll bring my general book so you can see big possibilities too.

Thanks for the links and ideas everyone, and yes Mona I should be attending this Saturday's meeting so please bring the book along. I have found some good info for Germany on the local city/town tourism page.

While it's not as comprehensive as the blurb suggests, Lonely Planet's 'National Parks of Europe' is a well-photographed idea book that can point you toward some really neat places to explore.

I was going to suggest “Walking Easy in the Swiss and Austrian Alps”. It Shoe beat me to it.

There is also one for the French and Italian Alps.

A good tip is to go to the local bookstores once you arrive in your destination. I have found that those kind of books, do not have wide circulation, but you can find once you get to destination. For example, when I lived on Maui, I found a small book called Maui Trails. I also found books on local scuba diving destinations that I had not seen anywhere else.
Good luck!
