A Game called Worldle

Not to be confused with Wordle, the wildly popular word game, Worldle requires that you guess the name of a country by viewing an outline of its map. Here is the website (not an app),;

Yes I'm much better at it than Wordle - though today's was tricky

Wow, great game! Amazing how hard it is with just the shape of the country and no other features on the map.

When I was using Memrise to learn world Geography, you had to recognize the country by its' shape. It was a great way to learn.

Edit: this was tough but fun. Have it bookmarked.

Thanks for posting this. Was fun to play - needed all 6 tries today

I got it in 4 today, but only needed 2 yesterday. It’s not great for us Brits, as we struggled last week with HUMOR which was spelt incorrectly - it’s HUMOUR.

Not sure this is travel related!

I was miles off, literally, on every guess. I shall try again tomorrow.

Wordle on the other hand I seldom fail to solve, usually within four.

This is great fun, Bob! Thanks for sharing.

I got it -- on the last try !!

We are "Wordle Nerd-les" in our house. :))
Now I'll have to try Worldle!

I have played Worldle for a few days, and have not been able to get the right answer. I have, however, narrowed it down to the right region of the correct continent.

I had to wonder whether today’s was an slabs, with the irregular borders all around. I took a liberial guess.

Today’s Worldle is easy. Today’s Wordle I got in 3.

Ax and humor are not accepted spellings in the U.K.!

I am enjoying this. As a youngster my brother had a map of the world across the wall in his room. I found myself memorizing the areas and dreaming about places to travel. So far this has been easy & fun for me. Thanks Bob.

Yes, today was too easy. But there’s a North Island and a South Island. I see there’s an option with Worldle to spin the country around to a different perspective than north = up. That might make things exceedingly difficult.

Jennifer, that's interesting since the creator of Wordle (Josh Wardle) is Welsh; however, his wife is American (and they live in the US) and he created the game for her.

And...there is also Airportle...guessing the 3 letter code for different airports.
When will it end?!!

I think some are confusing Wordle with Worldle. I find both fun, but Worldle is super fun for this geography geek. I have guessed the last two in one try. There have been a couple days that I wasn't able to identify the country. In that case, the game gives the answer and a link to some information (might have been google maps) about the country.

It has been a satisfying week for me and Worldle: got three countries on the first guess!

I play Worldle daily after Wordle. I’ll do so until the New York Times sets up a paywall.

Yes, I do them one after the other. That's after I've started with "Spelling Bee," which I'll keep coming back to all day.

Today's was easy, so was New Zealand awhile back. I too am hoping for Italy or US to bring my average up. The countries with land borders can be very challenging, partly because there's no indication how big or small they are. Islands are much easier.

Now, back to Spelling Bee.....

Fun game but I use my map of the world and guesses to help match the country’s outline.

Today’s is especially relevant.

Today's was trickier because I didn't recognize the section to the left (west) separated by a river. Never knew that part of the country was there like that. I thought it was an island.

I admit, I cheat a little bit, but only after I have made some educated guesses to narrow it down to a specific part of a continent. I can't remember names of all the countries. Finland really threw me because the day before was Sweden. Overthinking it, I didn't expect two Scandinavia countries in a row. But I still get many of them without peaking at a map.

Today’s was particularly relevant, as Beth said, for sure. Interesting that the Crimean part was intact on the silhouette. Hopefully the country’s borders aren’t forcefully changed, and that the shape remains for future installments of the game.

Tom, I cheated with maps and still missed it by 4000km! Not even a fighting chance to get that one.

I cheated and still couldn’t find today’s either. Thanks for sharing this. I have been playing daily and really enjoy it.

Me too, I had to go to Google Earth and triangulate after my three previous guesses, then I had to drill way down to find that tiny speck. Looked it up in Wikipedia and learned some interesting history. Also "discovered" a lot of other tiny specks in that big expanse. Israel and Greece the previous days had made me complacent. I like Worldle but I have a problem with their offering tiny places that aren't countries at all, Diego Garcia being another example.

Now back to Spelling Bee....

Thanks Bob… have been doing this since you posted. They had USA on the other day. Know they are random but have already done at least repeaters .

Today was already previously been done. This time I remembered it. Lol
