That is a good start for six days. Keep in mind that you are at the height of the tourist season for that area, it will be hot, so your ability to see and do things will be somewhat reduced. Florence and Rome are similar in many ways so you might consider four days in Rome and two in Florence but use one of the Rome days for a day trip out of the city for a break.
Can't go later or earlier in the season for a longer period? Too bad. But you will enjoy both places. Look in Rick's book for the best ideas not only on what to see it but when and to make reservations for places so you don't spend your vacation on a line. You will enjoy both places no matter what you see.
